Obama vs. Fox News: What’s your take?

In the way that all playground battles break down, The White House says Fox started the whole thing. Fox News denys that claim. Mother America rolls its eyes.

But according to an AP story, White House communications director Anita Dunn probably kicked it off during an interview last week on CNN when she said Fox is like “a wing of the Republican Party.” Adding fuel to the fire, the president has been quoted as saying, there is “one television station that is entirely devoted to attacking my administration.” The White House blog attacked Fox commentator Glenn Beck for spreading “lies.”

Fox’s network executive Michael Clemente said he was astounded that the president couldn’t discern between Fox’s news shows and its opinion programming, adding that the White House has banned its staff from appearing on the network. Glenn Beck said “I don’t think the White House actually wants a dialogue. They want to smear, isolate and destroy.”

Some newspaper columnists say if in fact Obama is looking to “punish” Fox News, whether you like the station or not, we should be concerned. Others applaud Obama taking a stand against the network.

So, now that you’ve been given the quick and dirty rundown. What do you think about the whole thing?

The votes for the petty nonsense are actualy in fovor of fox.

  2. Ralph Wallis says:

Fox cannot seem to get it right!

  3. Mike Right says:

Fox news has always been and will always be a news station for the whacks.

  4. Ron says:

Fox News tells it like it is.The current administration is afraid of the truth.

  5. SC says:

Look at the ratings. Fox News beats every other “news station” and has been for a long time. That data doesn’t lie. The majority of the country trusts Fox News and they have good reason to.

Obama is just upset that there is real journalism going on at Fox News. He hasn’t ever had to deal with people criticizing him.

  6. RG says:

SC is right. BO has never been challenged and is a clinical narcissist. He is a great manipulator, which is perfect for his home country of Kenya or Hawaii before it was a state. But this is the big league and the world expects results. Every time his administration speaks FOX has new material. He might consider listening to some of the talking heads out there. Being in the private sector they are obviously well informed and intelligent or they would be running for public office.

    • Unconventional says:

Wake up and smell the coffee. Try reading stories from other parts of our country and use the internet to read newspapers from other countries. FOX only tells parts of stories (not that the other networks do a whole lot better) It seems like it you want to get the real picture on anything anymore you have to read about it from about 5-6 different sources in various publications and countries. Then sift through all the points of view (even though it is news it can still be slanted by what is put in and what is left out) and piece together a picture (sort of looking like a sports instant replay from several different camera angles). Please make up your own mind after that and don’t just let FOX or any other station or talk radio spoon feed you slices and slivers of this and that.

  7. Lonnie Huntley says:

Fox News gives YOU the NEWS and lets YOU decide. I believe that the Democrats are afraid of criticism and will do just like the NAZI’S and try to take away our freedom of speech. IF you believe in Socialism then you must be a DEMOCRAT, cause They believe that the GoVERMENT should be the ONE’S to decide WHAT kind of Health benifits you deserve, THAT the GOVT. should OWN all the companies and WHERE YOU will work and How much YOU get paid. IF YOU VOTED for them then YOU deserve everthing that this administration is about to do to YOU.

    • I think this is a very blanket and ignorant statement and the exact reason people attack Fox News. Democrat does not equal Nazi. Just like Republican doesn’t equal war monger like it was percieved under the previous administration.

Just like Glen Beck or anyone else has the right to spread percieved lies. The White House has the freedom of speech to call him on what they think are lies.

    • CMac says:

Lonnie, I’ll be the first to take exception to this administration’s actions that don’t make sense, b/c I DID vote for Obama, so in theory, my judgement is on the hook. I really don’t like the direction they’re trying to go with healthcare. But I think they’ve done a lot of good. That said, I’m not sure what you political leanings are unless you’re a member of the CONFUSED party. I’ve heard the socialism argument, and I certinaly think that’s extremist posturing at best, but even moreso, the argument about free is ludacris. The reigning protectors of free speech are the ultra liberal (super-mega-left-wing-democrats) ACLU. If any party is unlikely to RESTRICT free speech it would be the Democrats. I love having freedoms as a nation, but I think that certain things should be restricted, certain things should be proihibited, and that our rights are exploited by the vocal minority. But if you’re going to grandstand about an administration’s attempt to restrict our nation’s freedom’s and infringe on our rights, I have 2 words sir – Patriot Act.

Either you work for Fox News or you completely buy into the opinions another man is feeding you.

This country operates off of balance… has been for years.

Based on your logic, I could conclude every Republican wants to go back to states’ rights and the Civil War era… borderline anarchy. But I don’t conclude that due to actually having a semblance of critical thinking skills/opinion.

  8. I think it’s waste of time for the Obama administration to target Fox News. They are a business. At the end of the day they “report” news like any other station. Only place I really find fault with Fox News is with the viewers. I find it wrong for anyone to take anything they say as absolute truth. I find the same fault with anybody that watches the other stations and do the same.

But understand the push in some ways. I’m not saying it’s right. But a person can only be pushed so far with lies before he pushes back. Obama has always been known as a cool character. That coolness has caused a lot of news organizations to see him as weak. They have used that to report half-truths and dare I say blatant lies. If he did say anything about Fox News, he is just defending himself against a powerful network that is leading a lot people blindly.

    • mtucker says:

Is it wrong to take everything Jon Stewart says as truth? Out of context truth.. maybe.. but still more “truthy” than most anything else I see on television.

      • Yeah it is. And for one simple reason, he’s not a reporter. His show is satrical. He does say some smart stuff, but his show should never be taken serious.

      • CMac says:

What he says can be funny and still truth. Take the facts as facts and the comedy as comedy and you’ll never go wrong. The trouble with Fox is that the present opinions as facts, and most people bye in without thinking about the difference.

  9. Kev-O says:

Fox News (along with Rush Limbaugh) is the embodiment of the Southern Strategy enacted by Richard Nixon (Google it). They are playing to people’s fears. It’s like placing a loaded gun on the table and walking out of the room. MSNBC, true indeed, is the liberal voice of the three-headed monster that is CNN, MSNBC, and FOX. I think CNN is the lesser of the three evils. For every Campbell Brown, you have Lou Dobbs, and so on.

Obama and his administration calling out Obama wasn’t in good taste, but he has every right to do so when the majority of anchors, pundits, etc, on Fox take pot-shots at him. If he ignores it, then he’s weak. If he pushes back, then he’s “trying to censor” Fox. It’s a catch 22.

  10. mojo ryson says:

Fox News = Fear, smear and distortion.

    “We Distort, You Recline”

The numbers on this poll reflects The Natural State’s ranking as 48th in education.

  11. mojo ryson says:

    Congressman Alan Grayson:

“Fox News and their Republican Collaborators are the enemy of America. They’re the enemy of anybody who cares about healthcare in this country. The enemy of anybody that cares about educating their children. The enemy of everybody who wants energy independence or anything good for this country. And certainly the enemy of peace. They are the enemy.”

  12. Don says:

Anyone who thinks Fox news is news instead of propaganda for the right wingnuts is just that. A right wingnut. But they have a right to free speech and I have the right to ignore them. Eventually, like Joe Mccarthy they will go too far, just as old Jpe did. Til then, a pox on them and other slithery things under those rocks.

  13. Richard says:

Anyone that can’t see what BHO et al are trying to do to this country either has head in the sand or is just really dumb. It isn’t money. That comes with the job. IT’S POWER. Can you believe that a president of these United States of America would stand up and openly criticize his(?) country, then bow to another leader.
Those who think FOX is lying, come fourth with your evidence.

  15. mojo ryson says:

    From Wikipedia:

Roger Eugene Ailes (born May 15, 1940) is the American president of Fox News Channel and chairman of the Fox Television Stations Group. He was a media consultant for Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush, as well as Rudy Giuliani’s first mayoral campaign in 1989.

  16. Edward R. Murrow says:

Electronic news as journalism died in the 1970’s when ABC dissolved its independent news department and put it under Roone Arledge, in the Sports and Entertainment division. Arledge’s claim to fame was that he produced college football and the Olympics coverage. Independent, critical, and unblinking journalism became “entertainment”. By 1990, all networks were owned by major corporations like GE and Westinghouse. ABC is currently owned by Disney. The whole emphasis is on presenting a “product” that people will watch in order to sell advertising.

From this poisonous tree sprung the rotten apple Fox News, which simply carried this concept to it’s most logical (and extreme) conclusion: pander to the fear and prejudices of the ill-informed (about 75% of the country), and they will come. Under Roger Ailes, a Nixon crony, Fox has been for 20 years the propaganda arm of the Republican Party, no more, no less. Just because you may agree with some of the less than rational crap that Fox dishes out on a constant basis does not make them a legitimate news organization, any more than the PR department of any major corporation is.

Obama has simply said what the rest of us have known for 20 years. Fox is not interested in news or public discourse. They do not exist to inform. They exist to promote an agenda. For all of you wing nuts out there who think the rest of the news media is pinko, commie, ultra-liberal, I would ask you to produce even 10% of the volume of evidence that was submitted by mojo ryson, above. You can’t do it, because it doesn’t exist. Yes, most newsmen are liberals, because they are among the best informed of the citizenry. Did that ever occur to you? But with the exception of NPR and CNBC, which are unabashedly liberal, the other outlets make ridiculous and often unnecessary efforts to offer balance, sometimes making nutcase right wing postions look almost legitimate, when even a cursory examination shows that they are not.

  17. Gotta love this post. I’m getting my buddy the Nixon 51-30 Chrono! I hope he enjoys it.

Just one separate words with Msnbc inside the Television show. This individual carries a really tough immigration law plan. The master managed to graduate about the Harvard College. Today he provides her one Radio stations Show. He didn’t like the actual Nation president.
