Komen and Planned Parenthood

This week, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation announced it would sever support with Planned Parenthood, which has caused a stir among some supporters. The tie between the two organizations was revealed by an evangelical group called Lifeway discovered the connection and pulled its sales of pink Bibles as a result.

The Susan G. Komen foundation says in a video the decision to stop support of Planned Parenthood was not political. See the video and a few reasons for why the Komen foundation might have decided to pull support at NPR.

The Komen foundation has historically enjoyed huge support in Arkansas. The annual race here is one of the largest in the country, and this latest decision by the organization has irked some supporters here. How do you feel about the latest decision?

    Planned parenthood is a controversial organization but they provide preventive care services to low-income women who have very few other resources. Without the funds from the Susan G Komen grant, I fear that opportunities for cancer prevention and treatment will be missed.
