The Republican primary candidate Mitt Romney has been dogged by accusations that he’s mean to dogs. The claims are based on a story reported back in 2007 that while on vacation, Romney secured an airtight dog crate to the roof of his car and the family’s Irish setter made the trek up to Canada in it.
The story just won’t die as dog-lovers cry out that “Mitt is mean” on the Internet and in real-life as a group of animal activists insists on following Romney as he tours the country in search of primary votes. According to NPR story, in Romney’s defense, he said, “This is a completely airtight kennel, mounted on the top of our car. He climbed up there regularly, enjoyed himself, he was in a kennel at home a great deal of the time as well. We loved the dog, it was where he was comfortable and we had five kids inside the car and my guess is he liked it a lot better in his kennel than he would have liked it inside.”
Do you agree? Does this dog story change your opinion of Mitt Romney?
