The scientific research — at least when it comes to lab rats and mice — over the past few years has supported the idea that living on a diet that restricts calories can lead to longevity. But rats and mice only live a few years. To see if that’s true in other animals, such as monkeys or even humans, the testing process will take a few generations, but according to an NPR story preliminary results show that a diet with 30 percent fewer calories for rhesus monkeys has not significantly contributed to longevity, as hoped.
This week we’re wondering if you think it’s worth severly restricting calories in the hopes of adding a few years to your life.
